Polish WNBA champion attracts more than 120 basketball players to Kraków
120 people, in two rounds, will train under the guidance of professionals until 29 July. The children and young people developing their basketball passions in the vast majority come from outside Krakow, as well as from France and Slovakia. Among them are youth representatives of Poland and national championship medallists.
4th edition of the basketball camp in Kraków and the launch of Ewelina Kobryn’s foundation E11
From 17 to 29 July, Ewelina Kobryn’s basketball camp, champion of the WNBA, Euroleague, EuroCup of Poland, Russia, Spain and a multiple representative of Poland, will take place in Krakow for the fourth time. For a fortnight, a total of almost 150 participants, children and young people from all over Poland will improve their basketball skills under the supervision of the champion and qualified coaches. The fourth edition of the camp is organised as part of the Ewelina Kobryn E11 Foundation established this year, which will fund a training trip to France for the most talented and hard-working camp participants.
Ewelina Kobryn is one of the best Polish basketball players ever. She won the championship of the best women’s basketball league in the world WNBA with the Phoenix Mercury team. She is the first Polish woman to reach this title. During her career, she celebrated championship titles in the Euroleague, EuroCup, Russia and Spain and four times in the Polish league. After her worldwide sporting career, she returned to her hometown of Krakow, where she has been organising a basketball camp during the summer months since 2020. Its premise is to create the best possible conditions for children and young people from all over Poland, as well as foreign participants, to train in basketball during the inter-season break along the lines of those corresponding to the country’s senior national teams. The camp takes place every year at the Olympic Preparation Centre “Kolna” in Krakow.
Ewelina Kobryn’s camp coaching team, as in previous years, is also this year made up of professionals invited from different parts of the world with the highest level of qualifications, including:
Jacek Winnicki (Poland) – former selector of the Polish women’s national team,
Edyta Koryzna (Poland) – participant in the Olympic Games in Sydney 2000, coach of the Polish U 23 national team in 3×3 basketball,
Isabelle Fijalkowski (France) – record-holder of the French national team in the number of points scored, coach of French youth teams, member of the FIBA Hall of Fame,
Patrycja Czepiec (Poland) – European champion from 1999, coach of youth groups in Wisła Kraków,
Paulina Madej (Poland) – former representative of Poland, multiple national champion,
Mathieu Delarche (France) – Coach working with 8 NBA clubs.
An important highlight of the Camp programme will be a meeting with Ludwik Miętta-Mikołajewicz, who will officially open the Camp as the guest of honour. Ludwik Miętta-Mikołajewicz is a distinguished coach who has twice led the Polish women’s national team to the European vice-championship, won 14 Polish championship titles, and for years realised himself as the managing director of the Euroleague club Wisła Kraków.
As in previous years, we have invited prominent people from the world of sport and basketball to join us
and basketball, which means that camp participants will hone their skills under the guidance of experts and learn from the best. We are also paying attention to the educational aspect. The foreign coaches will be assisted by Polish assistants, and communication will take place in both Polish and English. The high quality of training motivates our charges to work very well and has a significant impact on improving their sports performance. This year’s edition of the camp is special for me, because it takes place under the umbrella of my Ewelina Kobryn E11 Foundation. We will finance a training trip to France for the most talented participants of the camp. Thanks to the Foundation’s activities, I hope that future editions of the camp can be organised on a larger scale. I also believe that in the coming years, we will be able to implement several new, necessary projects related to the promotion of, for example, women’s basketball or after-school basketball classes for primary school students. We want to take action, bringing about a positive change in society towards sport. We have a busy time ahead of us. Children and young people all over Poland need sports activities, motivation, our attention and constructive conversation like never before. Their needs have become the mission of our Foundation. – Ewelina Kobryn, WNBA, Euroleague, EuroCup champion of Poland, Russia, Spain, representative of Poland.
This year, nearly 150 participants will take part in the camp. The event is becoming more and more popular every year among potential participants, arouses the interest of partners and attracts the attention of local and national media.
